At least now all in Switzerland should have realized that Switzerland is not a "special case" any more.
People claiming that Switzerland would be a "special case", these people are really "special cases"...

Protect nature does not need any technique and no rich men - the profit of our "civilization" - and heavy Genoa depressions are not "events of the century" any more

Protecting nature is a natural thing and precision is not needed, with millimeters or 6 figures behind the point. Protecting nature does not need many medicaments and not 20 different pairs of shoes either which are fitting with the trousers one is wearing at the moment, and also lipstick is not needed and also nail polish not either. But we have to protect our nature so nature will not threaten mankind. That means: We have to consider all humans as a part of nature, who is not nature any more when the man is damaging nature.

It's absolutely not understandable why Switzerland had got two Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology, is running many engineering schools, and is educating a tremendous number of physician students, but there are happening catastrophes which would be avoidable with some logic thinking concerning nature. The same counts for the whole "civilized" world: High atmosphere flights are realized, but flood prevention and climate protection and a reduction of greenhouse gases and reduction of the car traffic to reduce storms and floods is not realized. The cerebral manipulated upper class of the world wide "civilization" is showing it's character with every catastrophe again: profits have first priority, but saving lives not.

My reader's letter in the online BLICK was published on 29 August 2005. I indicated that the word "event of the century" would be wrong: "This flood was not an 'event of the century'. This event will come again all three or five years. And it will come even more often when greenhouse effect is going on like this."

Factor deforestation

Mankind is damaging to nature when there are concerns of power or profits put over the concerns of nature. For example the peoples of the Mediterraneans destroyed  almost all forests there in Roman times for the construction of houses and ships. The thin layer of earth was washed away by ran, and now a big part of the Mediterranean is a stony desert. The same mass deforestation happened in the Alps in the 19th century when wood industry was cutting protective forests without care which gave protection of avalanches. Only with a special forest law at the end of 19th century could be installed a systematic wood protection in Switzerland. This mechanism did not happen in the Mediterranean because snow is not an essential danger there.

But the slopes partly are without any forest, and when there are times with much rain so the mudflows are coming regularly. When there is a big low with much rain so principally the whole Alps are sliding...

3.
Factor river regulation and flow velocity

But this 19th century was provoking more changes also in the 20th century yet in the European and in the "American" landscape. Big rivers flowing in slow meanders got a new riverbed which was dead straight. The meanders were dried and were converted into farmland or into new building land. Levees were constructed as a protection of the newly won territory of floods. This principle was realized for example at the East of Berlin along Elbe river, and also in Switzerland along Thur or Birs river near Basel, or with Po river in Italy, or with Mississippi river in the "USA", and with many more bigger or little rivers. Politicians, architects and sociologists of the 19th and 20th century were celebrating because there was the belief that these "river corrections" would fulfill several wishes of "civilized" world at one time:

-- there were dried swamps and meanders and by this malaria and plagues of mosquito were almost eliminated

-- with the newly won "mainland" new growth was possible for neighboring communities building new flats or industries in attractive positions

-- floods should be prevented with levees and should never happen any more

-- these "river corrections" made by mankind were the big proof for the legitimation of the power of mankind over nature according to the Bible phrase: "subdue the earth" (1st Moses 28).

Bern-Venice, areal photo: The Aare river wants back it's space... (August 2005)

The politicians, architects and sociologists found it negligible that the canalization of the rivers had a price of a reduction of spaces with the animals. Frogs, newts and fishes were robbed their space, and reed corners and earth caverns at the river slopes were eliminated. From one moment to the other many of these animals were listed as animals in danger of extinction. All riparian plants (flowers on the river slopes) were rationalized (eliminated) and also were listed as plants in danger of extinction from one moment to the other. With these events the politicians, architects and sociologists should have listened well - but they did not listen because animals and plants had no voice in money determined politics. To the contrary: When there was a dead straight manipulated river, there was constructed another road along this river which was very "useful" for the car policy.. (see the examples of Rhine river, Birs river, Dreisam river etc.).

The rivers manipulated as dead straight channels have got also a higher flow velocity because they have to surmount the same height difference with a shorter route. Already with this the "engineers" did not count. Such a channeled river is taking more load with it (stones, trunks) and where there is less flow velocity or where there is  an obstacle like a bridge there will be a deposit for this load. Therefore the possible volume of the water within these levees is going down in certain locations. And when there are little rivers with floods there will be filled the whole channeled river bed by the load, and the river is passing the levees and "irrigating" whole towns.

Driftwood blocking creeks and rivers and is driven from the river bed into the towns
Entlebuch (Switzerland):

Giswil (Switzerland): Driftwood on a train station (August 2005)

Driftwood and wood jam at the weir construction with the river step
This driftwood is blocking creeks and rivers, and in the towns also some river steps are blocked, so the flood cannot pass any more. Therefore there were great floods in Berne and in Thun. Why was there so much driftwood, people were asking, and they found the culprit: After storm Lothar the nature protection organizations had claimed that the broken wood in the forests should stay. Well, I mean that there are other reasons provoking the heavy floods than the driftwood which is in the forests because creeks hardly have contact any more with the forests - or there would fall a whole forest into a creek.

But there was a precise investigation and a completely different result:

According to a precise investigation 90% of the driftwood was fresh wood taken from the forests, and came from sawmills which were flooded, and their wood was partly taken away. Only 10% of the driftwood was old wood from the ground which had been taken down by storms before (from: Schweiz Aktuell; Swiss TV SF1 12 September 2005).

The incompetent persons have to be searched in policy, for example in Berne where the river step was not changed since the last flood in 1999 "because the political procedures need so much time"... Well, the flood is not waiting, and any week can come another one, Ladies and Gentlemen!

The weir in Berne provoking great floods in Matte quarter
Berne: The weir of
Aare river is predestined provoking a jam of
wood when there is a flood Berne: This was the weir of Aare river
during the flood of 1999. Already then was
flowing brown cream flooding the quarter for
days, ant the government has not done anything.

Thun
(Switzerland): This weir was blocking the driftwood so
the fast going down of the flood was blocked. Only a
helicopter operation taking out the wood by air could
                  solve the situation.

The situation in Brienz (Switzerland): There were houses at a "creek"
Brienz
                        (Switzerland): A mountain creed ("wild
                        creek") is pushed into a
                        "channel" and the architectures did
not consider that driftwood and rubble would
fill this "channel" when there is much
rain. And therefore the chalets were built
                        directly at the wild creek.
Brienz
(Switzerland): A flood was coming: The wild
creek needed it's space: houses away, chalets
away, and the engineers and architects are not
punished for their negligence (August 2005).
Brienz (Switzerland): A mountain creed ("wild creek") is pushed into a "channel" and the architectures did not consider that driftwood and rubble would fill this "channel" when there is much rain. And therefore the chalets  were built directly at the wild creek.

Brienz (Switzerland): A flood was coming: The wild creek needed it's space: houses away, chalets away, and the engineers and architects are not punished for their negligence (August 2005).

Therefore a common sense has to foresee that a mountain creek ("wild creek") is really "wild" all 30 years and is not satisfied with just 3 m of space, but needs up to 50 to 80 meters of space, that much space as the original valley (ravine) was. The architects have robbed the ravine and now are claiming that the houses have gone.

Add to this the water in a channeled river is much faster in the plains and is causing floods in the big valleys resp. is bringing the flood rapidly to the towns and lakes.

Driftwood and rubble are filling the river beds and whole towns are flooded

Concrete is not safe in the mountains, example: Engelberg

There was a weak concrete economic construction on a steep mountain slope. That is not safe for a long time... (August 2005)

This road and the railway line between Grafenort and Engelberg in Switzerland had no luck: The river wanted more space - and the road had gone, and also the railway has gone. The architects and the engineers meant that they could amplify the mountain for their purposes, and this even in a lightweight design (resp. economic design), and even the road with the railway at the same time!!!

x

Parting the risk had been very reasonable as it is doing any bank with its fortune: one part of the fortune is here, another part is there. So: The cars should pass here, and the railway should have another path.

Principally these defects of planning are inexcusable. All calculations according to the methods of the Technical High Schools (ETH) had no sense. Engineers and architects are not punished for the damages and for the failing profits. But this was foreseeable that this road with it's railway line at Engelberg would be broken in case of doubt... This was foreseeable for anybody who had passed by foot the foot path from Engelberg to Grafenort looking at the valley of Engelberger Aa river. Because there are rocks as big as men which can rock any mountain:

Railway viaducts before the concrete times are more stable:

Stable viaduct
constructed with stones at Berguen (Switzerland,
second Albula viaduct) with a train with a steam
locomotive: Such structures from before the concrete
times are not destroyed holding for centuries!

                  safe, really good!
Berguen (Switzerland): Here is the same Albula viaduct II in the year 2000: This viaduct is well and safe, really good!

When the vital road and the vital railway line from Lucerne to Stans and Engelberg had been constructed in such a safe way that there would not be any misery in Engelberg. And the engineers have "calculated", but the engineers have never seen the stones of Engelberger Aa river. They never have taken nature into their consideration. Nature often does not exist in the offices of the engineers, as it was with Titanic...

One can see all this also from another point of view: The local population of Engelberg knew about the danger, but the studies engineers of ETH or of technical schools (not important from where) are not believing to the local population. Or it can be it was in another way yet: The local population had no courage to give advice to the "studied"...

But in 1987 there was already a severe weather and the motorway A2 passing the canton of Uri had almost been broken, and also this motorway was a concrete construction. Perhaps the building boards and building departments are realizing after the catastrophe of Engelberg that cheap concrete is nothing worth... Concrete is not only dead and gray and is reflecting any noise so the noise is doubled and is increased fourfold, but: Concrete will be broken!

The fast rivers are entrenching themselves
Add to this the higher flow velocity has another effect yet: The rivers are entrenching themselves more and more so the river bed is lower and lower, and this is lowering the ground-water level. Therefore it can be that many trees are getting no water any more and are dry because their roots are getting too short. This was the case e.g. along the Rhine river channel between Basel and Freiburg / Colmar. This las effect can be seen until today along little and medium channeled creeks. Also whit the "engineers"did not take into consideration.

There are only rare cases when a creek or a river is reopened and the meanders are permitted again. This would be an important condition taking the force of the rivers and stabilizing the ground water levels and preventing floods and broken levees. One can see: The Bible word is wrong because the man is always the server of the earth and not the other way round.

4.
Factor road building and motor construction: greenhouse gases provoking more rain and higher snow line

At the beginning of the 20th century the "USA" made investments of industrialization of all households with electric equipments and with cars. Ford company was inventing the first "people's car" which any clerk could afford (only the white one). Europe was following, in Italy with Fiat, in Germany with VW. Road building and motorway constructioning were going on and were built with cancer provoking bitumen road surfaces. Forests and meadows were sacrificed to the growing "individual traffic". And more rivers were channeled: They were pushed into channels made of concrete or granite without any life in them, in Los Angeles, or in the Swiss Alps, as e.g. in Brienz.

Therefore there were several developments coming to a big climax:

-- atmosphere is getting warmer and warmer by greenhouse gases of coal power stations, cars, air planes and heating, and at the other side there was robbed the space of the rivers and the channels are blocked by the driftwood and by the rubble

-- there is also a Genoa depression in summer now, and the clouds of the Mediterranean can have more water than before, and at the same time there is also more rain in winter because the snow line is higher than before

-- at the same time there is only a reduced surface of forests as a water reservoir

-- and the many roads and motorways are provoking that the water is even going faster than before.

But politicians and architects were not ready for a change of mind. They had not considered more rain. When the temperatures are higher, so there is more humidity going up from the sea and the clouds have more water and then - wherever the clouds are going - this huge quantity of rain is going down where nobody was foreseeing it.

So there is following one flood after the other, e.g. in Koblenz, Cologne, Prague, Dresden, at Thur river, in Thun, on Mallorca island, in South of France, also in other regions than Europe at the Mississippi, in Russia, in China. Everywhere are functioning the same mechanisms. These floods have no justice and no national borderlines. To the contrary: The biggest culprits, the greenhouse gases, are "not proved" until today that they are the main cause for the climate warming...

The biggest producer of greenhouse gases of the world to whom we thank this Deluge is called "USA"

Until today the dominant "US" government has taken no measures fostering energy with wind technique, sun technique or hydrogen technique in their own country. There are not even experiments, and public traffic or bike is not fostered at all for a reduction of car traffic (year 2002). There are no public traffic connections, there are no bike roads, there are hardly tube systems, there is no solar power. But there is a manipulated low gasoline price in order that the population is not protesting, and the air conditioning systems of the paper houses are going on with the current of outdated coal power stations.

Atomic power lobby is even spreading the thinking that atomic power stations could inhibit the greenhouse effect. But - as always - atomic power lobby is not considering their atomic rubble, is not considering the affected contamination of the sea and of the rivers by the atomic wastewater at the "reprocessing plants", and is not considering the impossibility of neutralization of atomic waste. "USA" are planning an atomic final repository in Nevada planning just this deposit in a seismic active mountain which has many water veins. This project can be planned only by blind engineers, and there seems to be much atomic waste, a real "misery of waste" which is not at all an indication for a justification of atomic industry.

5. Rising ground water - floodplain is coming back

There is another consequence provoked by the regularly growing rainfalls after some floods: Now the ground water level is rising. First it can be handled yet because the houses are not damaged. But houses which have been built in former floodplain territories and in former swamp territories along the lakes and along he channeled rivers are in heavy danger now. In former times this was called "territorial gain". But now, when there are repeated floods, there is a big danger coming up from the ground water because it's level is rising intruding the houses constructed in these zones. Also this was not considered by the profit-orientated engineers and architects. Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology (ETH) and Technical Universities (TU) are all profit-oriented and were working without any integral orientation. They have failed completely. They simply mean that the basements are "water proof", and greenhouse effect was forbidden having been taken earnest because all policy of the "USA" would have been put into question. Well, now it's here, the greenhouse, but the world has not adopted yet.

Clearly said this means: The pasture landscapes will come back by themselves: coming from above and from below. Whole house rows will be uninhabitable, and houses which were built in pasture landscapes and are not built on columns will get an incline position or will even collapse. In this way nature is getting back it's territory: The "reconquest" is going on. The natives of Europe, the "pile dwelling owners", they knew better how nature has to be managed, better than any ETH or TU. In former times there were no thinking restrictions yet which were ordered by "USA". Greenhouse effect does not exist...

6. The hell and the changing of mind

Here is a hell: The rivers themselves have a voice now. The waters are coming over the levees and are tearing all with them, motor homes, caravans and whole houses, above all in the territories where was channeled a river and was defined "new land" for building sites, or on slopes where was forest before.

There is a hell: Also the sea is getting a voice now because by melting the poles the sea level is rising. The temperature of the sea is rising and the animals in the sea have to adopt, partly are dieing the animals in masses like in the coral reefs in Australia. The coast of the Mexican Gulf is not far away from New Orleans yet. Venice is more and more in danger, also when there will be a high levee protecting the laguna. Whole islands in Pacific are drowning, are salty and not fertile any more because salt water is displacing the fresh water provoking an infertile soil.

The madness that man could dominate the world in the name of God as it is prescribed in the Bible will come to an end. Man and "science" have to find back to nature and have to recognize that the Bible is not at all written in the sense of nature. But man should accept the rules of nature and should live with nature and not against it. "Natives" are always a model. They were colonized by the cross of "God" and terrorized. Now the "God believers" have to learn from the "natives", from the natives who are existing yet.

Politicians, architects and sociologists of the "modern civilized world", all have to change their mind and have to give back land to the rivers. But this is not enough yet. We need measures for a reforestation of whole forest regions for a coming down of the temperature in the atmosphere. but as long as the white dominated government of the "USA" are considering the consequences of their car and coal policy as a side effect, as long as the government and the deputies in the "USA" are thinking of profits only, are importing tropical timber illegally, are exporting weapons and are leading wars, the Deluge will go on. Greenhouse gas is the most destructive export article of the "USA". It's coming from American cars, heatings, and coal power stations. According to the polluter pays principle the "US" industrialists and the American car drivers have to share the costs of the damages caused by the Deluge.

What happens when whole China is driving a car?

Until now the "USA" are hardly using solar energy, but in the Southern states there would be brilliant conditions for solar energy. The same conditions are in Southern Europe, in Africa and in Asia. When will the world community defend themselves from the mental blocking of useful technique which is a considerable reason of Deluge? the solutions are wind energy, solar energy and hydrogen energy. When will come the understanding of the "US" government? Perhaps this understanding will come only when Washington or New York will suffer also a hell: a Deluge. In other places the Deluge is a common event already.

7. Added in 2005:
Claim of an international court for environment - polluters should go to prison: "USA" and Free Masons - China - Russia etc. - the new "development countries" - and the measures

"USA" will be reasonable only when they are punished by a court. For that an international environment court is needed damning the free mason government of the "USA" at least and putting them into jail and destroying the Free Mason organizations, because Free Masons never want a government with nature, but against nature, and they want to go on with this.

The same quantity of environment pollution as in the "USA" is also in China (greenhouse effect, pollution), and in another sense there is happening a hell also in Russia (by broken oil pipelines) and in other countries with other destructions of the base of living. Here, international justice is missing which can be afforded only by an international environment court with specialized commissions.

By this there will be also a new qualification of "development countries", and there will be a new definition of "progress". The "USA" and China will be the two biggest development countries. But not only the two governments have to be put into jail concerning the environment...

Without a condemnation of the "USA", China, and Russia, and without limitation of greenhouse gases the Alps will change their shape in the next 1000s of years and step by step will be uninhabitable. It's my meaning that - when greenhouse effect is not stopped immediately - the Alps will not exist any more in 400,000 years, and the foothills of the Albs will be one single alluvial fan.

In China and in the "USA" floods are happening already every year, and this will also happen in Europe when there is no decisive change of industrial policy:

China: floods every year again

                          year, probably in 2004)
Yangtze river flooding the town of Jiujiang (without year, probably in 2004)

Look here the new from China from 22 July 2004:

"The speaker of the central office for the fight against floods and drought, Zhang Zhitong, indicated on Wednesday in Beijing that thanks to protection measures only 400 lethal victims have to be deplored during this flood season. In the 1990s yet the averaged rate of lethal victims had been the double."

Emergency measures for Europe, "USA" and Asia

-- forest has to be recognized as a basic value absorbing nature forces, and reforestation is needed where it's possible

-- the old river beds should be reinstalled and any building of houses (flats or industry) should not be possible where are alluvial lands because of the possibility that oil or other contaminants are washed up

-- there is no other solution that sky scraper building with at least 8 stores, also in the alps

-- there should be no consumption of territory any more, but the unspoilt territory has to increase, the surface of roads and the surface of houses has to come down

-- any construction of motorway and road building has to be forbidden - instead of this bike roads have to be constructed like in Holland, side roads have to be converted into unmade roads or at least should have a band of meadow in the middle (eventually with checker bricks) so there is more infiltration

-- wind energy, geothermal energy and sun energy have to be fostered as much as possible reducing greenhouse gases, without greenhouse gases.

And there are special measures for "USA" and Asia
-- industries have to be modernized
-- wind energy, geothermal energy and solar energy should be installed and fostered as much as possible.

What happens without these measures? Half of Europe will be Venice... and the Alps will be reduced
All in all there has to be considered that - without these measures - the Alps will be more and more inhabitable, and Central and Eastern Europe will be hurt all 3 to 5 years by heavy floods. All in all it will be more and more inhabitable. The conditions are more and more comparable to Venice, but only with the difference the the Venices in Central Europe are created in an involuntary way.

The Alps will be reduced, the valleys will be blocked, and new lakes can be created, and when the levees break new floods can come creating new alluvial fans, and houses and roads of the "civilization" can be buried. There is possible a storm rhythm of 2 weeks.

China and "USA": The whole world is sleeping since decades - and there is missing an environment court
Add to all this it's not comprehensible why there are floods all years in China and hurricanes in the "USA" - but there is no world wide change of industrial structures. It seems that this will only be with an environment court.

The earth will be more and more inhabitable. That means: At the same time there will be more humidity in Sahara converting into a savanna, and there will be new living space...

How long will go on this? That means: In two weeks can be the next flood, in summer and in winter...

Where is the environment court stating the causes, putting the responsibles into jail and taking measures for the protection of mankind, of the animals, of the plants?

8. Climate change is changing the monsoon zones - and nobody is prepared

Since the great floods in Pakistan and in the Himalaya in 2010 it's clear that the climate change is provoking a change of the monsoon zones, and greatest floods are the consequences because the governments have not prepared anything for this scenario. There are no big river beds, there are no flooding territories etc. The whole landscape is flooded, the harvests are destroyed, the villages are not built on hills, there is simply no protection of floods. Add to this the clouds have more humidity and more rain, and then the catastrophe is doubled:
-- there are no river beds
-- and there is coming more rain.

And therefore the Deluge is coming everywhere on the world - and the governments are going on thinking that they would not be responsible for the effects.

9. Earthworms are a help against floods

1 October 2010: biologic earth with many earthworms are soaking more water - earthworms are a support against floods

from: n-tv online: Wissen: Bio-Böden als Hochwasserschutz: Regenwürmer nutzen vielfach; 1.10.2010;
http://www.n-tv.de/wissen/Regenwuermer-nutzen-vielfach-article1621051.html

<According to biological farmers earthworms can be an effective protection of floods. Therefore more ecologic farming can be a progress for flood protection in Germany. Fields of bio farms could accept 39% more water than fields of conventional farming, Bioland association in Mainz said. This is the result of an investigation of Julius Kuehn Institute.

An important fact is that on biological farms there are more earthworms. They provide more pores in the soil. Rain water can come down faster into deeper layers and by this would not be collect on the surface and in rivers and in creeks in big quantities.

"Actually the floods in eastern Germany is showing us how urgent is an effective flood protection", Bioland president Thomas Dosch said."When biological farming is extended this would cost less the tax payer than technical flood protection which costs a lot."

<BERLIN  The climate change which can be seen until today is only a little signal for greater changes caused by a continuous rise of greenhouse gases, Stefan Rahmstorf, a climate searcher of Potsdam, said. CO2 levels in the atmosphere are that high as never before. For this rise the man is responsible. First source is the burning of fossil fuels, second reason is the cut down of forests. A rise of concentration leads to a warming. The consequences are more rains. In the 20th century the global temperature has risen by 0.6 degrees. In this century a rise of 1.5 degrees is expected.>

25 May 2010: Modern Deluge: Half Poland is flooded

from: n-tv online: Panorama: Polen sollen ihre Stadt verlassen: Oder-Hochwasser kommt schneller; 25.5.2010;
http://www.n-tv.de/panorama/Oder-Hochwasser-kommt-schneller-article887458.html

Translation by Michael Palomino

[Situation in Germany at Oder and Neisse river]

<There is a wooden cross marking the mouth of Neisse river joining the Oder river in Ratzdorf in Brandenburg. Normally this cross is on land.

The flood of Oder river is rising faster than calculated before. In Brandenburg the highest alert stage of 4 will be announced on Thursday already - and this will be one day earlier than admitted before, the flood news center of Frankfort (Oder) said on Tuesday. Catastrophe headquarter of the country in Potsdam began it's work. In some places the levees are said to be weak.

In Ratzdorf (Oder and Spree rivers) the flood level of 5.90 meters will be risen at in the morning of Thursday. Then would be the danger that the levees would be overcome, the headquarter said. Evacuations are prepared. Since Wednesday for Oder Spree province between Ratzdorf and the border line to Frankfurt (Oder) has got an alert stage of 2. For the evening there was given the suggestion of an alert stage of 3: Then the levees, the barrages and all rivers and creeks have to be observed well. In Frankfurt (Oder) centers with sandbags were installed. Every household will get 100 sandbags, the mayor Martin Wilke said. Add to this there is a bridge system prepared.

There are two levees of 5 km each which are considered as "doubtful cases", in the Neuzell plain and between Gartz and Friedrichsthal. "We will work with these weak locations", minister of the interior Rainer Speer (SPD) said. Both locations were not redeveloped yet. They condition is of the 1950s/60s yet. But a breaking levee would only flood a village with weekend cottages.

[Poland]: Population is called to leave Slubice

Many levees of Vistula river have broken already.

Poland is getting hard days now: In the night to Wednesday the maximum of the floods of Vistula river will reach the Baltic Sea, Lukasz Legutko from hydro meteorologic institute IMGW of Warsaw said. In the afternoon the wave of flood was passing Tczew in Pomerania, about 30 km from Gdansk. The number of lethal victims has risen to 16: In Pulawy a 13 years old girl was falling from a bridge and died in the floods.

On Oder river in Poland the location of Dobrzejewice between Glogow and Nowa Sol was considered as a weak point. The levee is not complete, and it would be impossible keeping the river in it's river bed, a community representative said. The location was fortified with 150,000 sandbags.

Mayor of Polish town of Slubice on Oder river claimed that the population should leave the town during the flood. This also would count also for the whole region, mayor Ryszard Bodziacki said. Schools and preschool institutions would be closed, and add to this some roads are blocked. The problem is that the town is built at the most narrow point of Oder river. He did not want to give the order of an official evacuation evading panic and costs.

23 locations are flooded

In Plock in the North West of Warsaw the fight against the floods of Vistula river were going on. A levee was broken on Sunday and had flooded 23 locations. The water is going back, but the situation is very earnest, the chief of central Polish district Mazowsze, Jacek Kozlovski, said. Vistula river destroyed there a territory of 8,000 hectares, and 2,400 persons had to be taken into safety.

Polish government was gathering organizing financial help for flood victims. President Donald Tusk announced before the cabinet meeting that two billion zloties (500 million euros) will be given. There are 10,000s of helpers working in the country yet, and 1000s of persons are affected by the flood.

In the South of Poland the situation was coming normalizing step by step. Fiat corporation in Tychy could begin with their production again, PAP reported. Also the glass factory in Sandomierz was producing again. Also in Warsaw the level of the rivers were coming down, but the levees were going on being weak. Because of this some schools and preschool institutions were closed in some parts of the town.>

Pakistan 12.8.2010: Monsoon floods in Pakistan are "worst natural catastrophe of all times"

Well, it will be worse yet when climate change is going on and the river beds are not broadened. But the governments don't want to realize anything but they mean that policy with the capitalistic bourse could go on like before. The governments are stuck with the money which they will not have soon. But read yourself:

from : Stern online: Monsun-Flut in Pakistan: "Die schlimmste Katastrophe aller Zeiten"; 12.8.2010;
http://www.stern.de/panorama/monsun-flut-in-pakistan-die-schlimmste-katastrophe-aller-zeiten-1592700.html

Translation of Michael Palomino:

<Death, destruction, and desperation: Millions of flood victims in Pakistan need an immediate help. But the assistants hardly can reach them. The experts are speaking of the biggest natural disaster of world history.

Pakistan, flood disaster, flood, monsoon, rain, flood.

In their desperation the population want to reach the relief supplies: Millions of flood victims don't have anything.

John Holmes is the picture of an English gentleman. He passed the Balliol College in Oxford and was the ambassador of the Queen in Portugal and France, and since January 2007 he is the supreme coordinator of emergency help of the United Nations. When "Sir John" calls the flood in Pakistan as the biggest natural disaster, bigger than the earthquake of Haiti or the tsunami, then the diplomatic world is listening it. "I don't want to have a list with the ranks of the catastrophes, but the misery is huge", Holmes said in the UN headquarters in New York. And the worst has not passed yet considering the estimations of Pakistani meteorologic administration.

Respect from the victims and also from the work of the UN assistants would prohibit any comparison, Holmes said. World wide suffering - caused by earthquakes, floods, storms, volcano eruptions and wars - all this can only be managed in a realistic manner of work. "It seems cynical", a worker of UN office for coordination of humanitarian affairs (OCHA) said, "but after a catastrophe we have to bury the deads rapidly because the survivors need all our forces."

Six million need help immediately

In the ruins of Haiti 220,000 people died. The tsunami in Indian Ocean provoked even more victims. But now Pakistan's flood is rated as the biggest disaster, Holmes said, with 1,200 to 1,600 persons dead, but with millions of survivors who don't have food. In the tsunami territories 1.1 million persons were homeless. But Pakistan is passing all this: "Now there are six million people needing help", Holmes said.

United Nations are making propaganda for immediate help with their 192 member states, 459 million dollars (352 million euros) are needed for immediate help. "Let's say clearly", Pakistan UN ambassador Abdullah Hussain Haroon said, "the 12 to 14 million victims are all directly affected by the river." Because the flood is also an economic catastrophe. In one single province 96 bridges are destructed, roads have gone, companies have gone, marketplaces have gone. "About 15 to 20, perhaps 25 percent of the harvest is destructed. We estimate that the flood has pushed down the gross domestic product by 1 or 1.5 percent."

"A huge disaster"

Six million persons are in an immediate hardship: "These are humans who need clean water and food first, and then a tent, medical care and sanitarian facilities. Ant all this has to come now", Holmes declared.

"It's difficult to announce precise and equal estimations for all assistants", Geneva world food program representatives were stating. Reaching the flood victims is different in every province, and therefore there are aberrations. "It's sure that over two million people are in a critical situation and have to reconstruct their whole life", a speaker of International Committee of Red Cross said. "It's a huge disaster, and rain is going on. But it's also difficult comparing this with other disasters of former times."

Second flood wave is coming

And Pakistani boards are waiting for even more floods. After more rain in the North at the beginning of the week there will be a second flood wave passing the central Pakistani province of Punjab coming more to the South, the head of National Meteorologic Board said. The masses of water provoke the rise of Chenab river and could hit the town of Multan despite of all protection measures. Multan has 4.5 million inhabitants. That would be the biggest town affected by the flood. "In the next 10 days will be decisive", the government representative chief said. It's not clear if the 350 million euros immediate help will be enough claimed by the United Nations of their 192 member states in this case.

German organization "Welthungerhilfe" ("World wide help against hunger") is calling for contributions for flood victims in Pakistan. "The affected people cannot do nothing, and the political conditions are difficult", the aid organization said. "They need our help more than ever." The flood in Pakistan is "an enormous challenge never seen before".

Pakistan 14 August 2010: 20 mio. homeless persons by monsoon floods

from: 20 minuten online: Pakistan: Flut nimmt 20 Millionen ihr Zuhause; 14.8.2010; http://www.20min.ch/news/kreuz_und_quer/story/11180295

And it became worse and worse: According to Pakistani government the floods provoked that incredible 20 million people are left homeless.

A Pakistani soldier with a bag of relief supplies flying in a helicopter over Jacobabad.

Many more persons are losing their home by the hardest rains since ever in Pakistan: 20 million Pakistanis are said to be affected now. National ceremonies for the national memorial day are canceled. There are first reports of cholera, but an epidemic is not yet stated. But an all-clear is not given either.

"Heavy rains and floods have provoked that 20 millions of persons are homeless now", prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said in a TV speech for national independence day. United Nations are estimating 14 million affected, and from these 6 million need urgency aid.

Floods had destructed harvest and food of some billion dollars, Gilani said. Bridges and roads have gone. Floods had destructed structure of communication and energy.

And more victims every day

According to Gilani 1,384 persons were killed and 1,630 were hurt. More than 1,000 persons were dying in the North West province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 730,000 houses were destructed by the floods.

Gilani claimed that Pakistan "needs helping hands overcoming this disaster". But there is also corruption and a scandal of abused donations already and this will perhaps reduce the donations.

Scandal is charging donations

British daily newspaper "Daily Telegraph" claims - citing "high representatives" - that after the heavy earthquake in Pakistan five years ago there had been abused 367 million euros. These financial means have not reached the headquarters of the reconstruction administration ERRA.

In the population there is always more and more fury against the government. The danger of social eruptions is rising. Affected claim that the reaction of the government to the disaster was too slowly. The victims are mainly dependent on the help of the army and of foreign organizations.

No national day festivities

On Saturday UNO general secretary Ban Ki Moon was awaited in Pakistan. His coming was planned for the evening in Islamabad. On Sunday Ban wanted to gather with government representatives for a visit of the disaster zone.

Because of the flood there were no festivities of the 63th independence day from British colonial rule. President Asif Ali Zardari and the army canceled the ceremonies foreseen for Saturday.

Instead of this Zardari wanted to visit the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The army wanted to give the means for the festivities to the victims of the flood.

Epidemic situation not clear

The organization "doctors without borders" is not indicating an epidemic yet in the flooded territories. But there is no all-clear either. Many territories are without any access yet.

In North Pakistani Swat valley was confirmed the first case of cholera according to the indication of help organization Malteser.

The newspaper "Dawn" reported on Saturday that there was plunder in Central Pakistani province of Punjab attacking vehicles with aid to the catastrophe territories of Muzaffargarh. Meteorologists were predicting more rain for the following days.

Nigeria 25 September 2010: rainy season with more rain than normal - government is opening levees - over one million people homeless

"More rain than normal" - that's even "normal" considering the climate warming with more humidity and more water in the clouds - so there is more rain. But the governments are not preparing this change, and this has the consequence of floods in settlement areas, broken levees. Guilty yourself? Yes, precisely, guilty yourself: As a dweller one has to be flexible and has to choose a dry place today not being flooded. Climate is changing and one has to consider that the dry regions are shifting all 20 years. Well, all 20 years a change of location is acceptable. Here in the article the affected are running from the floods, a change of location without perspective. Deluge is coming on almost all the world, and the governments are not realizing that the river beds at least have to be doubled. But read yourself:

from: Stern online: Dämme in Nigeria notgeöffnet: Mehr als eine Million Menschen obdachlos; 25.9.2010;
http://www.stern.de/panorama/daemme-in-nigeria-notgeoeffnet-mehr-als-eine-million-menschen-obdachlos-1607353.html

<There was an emergency opening of two levees in Nigeria and two million persons are taking their flight from the water masses. In Federal State of Jigawa all in all 90,000 ha were flooded and 5,000 villages and towns were affected.

At least 1.2 million persons are homeless after the heavy floods.

The authorities of Jigawa State in the north of Nigeria opened the levees Challawa and Tiga provoking a flood on Friday affecting about 5,000 villages, a speaker of the governor said. At least 1.2 million persons are homeless after the heavy flood. Many houses were taken away, animals died. Until now there are no reports about deaths, the local health minister Ibrahim Nashabaru said. After the first estimations the damage to property is estimated of 4.5 billion naira (about 215,000 euros). The authorities declares that they had begun quartering the affected families in school houses and other public buildings.

Rainy season in Nigeria was abnormally heavy this year. A levee broke, others were washed over. First it was not clear if the population was warned before the opening of the levees and if there are persons missed or hurt. In the affected federal state of Jigawa are living about 4 millions of Nigerians, and about half of them is taking it's flight. Jigawa is situated in the dry Sahel zone in the south of Sahara.

In the passed weeks there were heavy floods in Niger and in Burkina Faso already. Several 100,000 people lost their homes. Red Cross in Nigeria declared that the authorities were working composing reports about victims. Priority is going with supply of the refugees, a speaker said.

Because of climate change the whole world has to prepare to double the river beds, or even the triplication. But the governments are not doing anything. And then we have once again a "result" of a tropical storm called like "Tasha". In North West Australia the towns of Rockhampton or Theodore are flooded. Crocodiles are swimming, and snakes are taking their flight. 20 town are cut off, agriculture has enormous losses, and the government is calling this flood a "biblical procedure" etc. pp. Well, but the governments are not ready to double the river beds at least and changing energy systems with solar energy. And the affected are helping themselves with Facebook. But read yourself:

from: Spiegel online: Rekordflut in Australien: "Lasst uns eine Arche bauen"; 3.1.2011;
http://www.spiegel.de/panorama/gesellschaft/0,1518,737597,00.html

<By Annett Meiritz

REUTERS

The water level is rising in the town of Rockhampton which is cut off by the flood, 10,000s of persons are kept in their houses. In the Internet they are speaking about their experiences presenting information and photos of the record flood - and have crisis humor.

Hamburg - "Main town of beef", like this is called Rockhampton in the guidebooks. Millions of cows are grazing around the coastal town in North West Australia - the town is proud with ornaments of over dimensioned animal puppets. Tourists like the huge and painted cows, every tourist is taking a photo of them. Now the well arranged streets of Rockhampton are flooded, destroyed by the gray brown water masses.

The worst floods since 50 years have cut the town from the outer world, army helicopters are bringing new food to Rockhampton. Highways, bridges and railway lines are blocked. The population is locked and is forming new alliances in the Internet, above all by the social network of Facebook. The big continent is one of the most important markets of this net - according to the indications of the company every second Australian has got a registration with Facebook.

The group "Rockhampton and Queensland Flooding 2010" has got more than 5,000 members already. Madison Harrisson in the 30s is nonstop online since the beginning of the flood warnings. Within seconds she is answering on news - also when it's midnight in Australia.

Calling is not possible because "the lines are dead", Madison indicates. Internet is still functioning, it seems to be the communication of the crisis. People are informed well by web sites of Australian weather service and emergency headquarters - and are distributing these informations to their groups.

Her husband is working in a mine, about 250 km more in the inner of Australia, wrote Madison. There were very extraordinary rains provoking that work would not be possible any more in the mine. "Now he is the fifth week at home". They present photo albums with wedding in white and three children.

"Thunders"

Natural disasters are nothing special for Madison - as for the majority of the Australians. "We had a huge flood in 1991, it was heavy, but this of today is more than ever". Her house near the airport is "protected to a level of 10 meters". Yet this level has not been reached, but meteorologists are predicting more rain. "Friends of us have lost everything", Madison writes, "were evacuated from their houses". "Our house is dry yet, but the town is isolated".

Shortly before three o'clock local time there is a new status: "May husband called the police. In 20 minutes also our road will be closed. Now we are absolutely blocked. Heavy."

Also Carissa is posting around three o'clock in the night local time: "Thunders". New thunderstorms, new rain. The administrator is presenting new levels. Facebook group is converting into a mass live ticker with news from minute to minute of the floods.

There are also some normal news - with Australian crisis humor:

Carissa: "When will be eliminated my Christmas decoration in Gladstone Road? Will this bring misfortune when it's still there??"

Shaelene: "Perhaps it will be eliminated by the flood - and next year we will get new ones at least."

Jungpapa Jorell has got another idea: "Ladies and Gentlemen, let's construct an arch. But don't forget beer!!"

There is even a check list for the emergency case, and sarcasm is even there: "Help to needy neighbors" is written there, but also: "Evade looking at the feet, but watch more DVD". Australian laid back attitude can be seen even during the emergency case.

"I miss my love!"

Well, the conditions are not at all comfortable. Purification plants are flooded, sewage waters are mixing with the flood waters. "This smell is more and more insufferable", a woman user says. Sherie, short hair with sympathetic smile calls: "We have to stay together now and have to function as a community."

Bernadette is anxious in the group: "Damn it, now we have a level of 9.1 meters, how will rise the water yet?" Peter is caring another thing: "I am locked in my house of a friend. Grrr, I miss my love!!"

In only a few hours there are 100s of news, status news and photos in Facebook. In the late Monday evening local time there is a confusion about an announced food delivery: How will reach the trucks the town? There is a debate in the commentaries. Trucks with food are on the way from neighboring town of Mackay, Anthony writes. There are discussed the different possibilities of supply by air plane, helicopter or boats. Then Carissa writes: "The food is here since a long times." And somebody is pressing the "like" bottom.

Many users warn from risky maneuvers. "Stay where you are, the water is rising very fast", Sandy writes. But there are also confusing rumors as for example the news of children killed by the floods. There is no official confirmation for this. Woman user Tara writes: "The water has reached our dooryard now. I am afraid." Help is offered - donations of money, furniture, baby things, clothes.

The members of the group are posting, are presenting and discussing in a rhythm of minutes, with commentaries and photos put online. Somebody has scanned photos of the passed floods of the passed decades in black and white, others present photos of flooded playgrounds, bridge piles, hangars, flooded partly or completely by the water masses. One sees an assistant in a water taxi in a red life jacket. And there is a colored plastic cow at the entrance of Rockhampton - the flood is reaching it's belly.

Meteorologists are predicting that the water level will rise up to Wednesday.>

And then followed the flooding of Brisbane on 12 January 2011:

Brisbane, water
freeway on 12 January 2011: "Brisbane is like
a ghost town - that is the pure horror"

These municipal administrations have

-- missed to double or triple the river beds with meanders
-- missed reforestation
-- missed biologic farming with more earthwoms
-- missed reducing their greenhouse gases
-- and levees are for nothing
-- and cheap concrete constructions are for nothing
-- and principally all houses should be swiming houses with columns as they are built in Holland.

Oh, be aware: nature will conquer it's space back.

7 October 2011: Again modern deluge in Tailand

from: Spiegel online: Alarmstufe Rot in Thailand; 7.10.2011;
http://www.spiegel.de/panorama/gesellschaft/0,1518,790516,00.html

<By Freddy Sucharai, Bangkok

Hundreds of persons have died already, the temples are in danger to sink, tourist center Phuket has to be afraid of mud avalanches. Worst floods since half a century begin to urge Tailand at the outmost of it's forces - and in many places the worst is coming yet.

Around the clock hundreds of helpers have erected security walls, were shifting sand bags. But it was all in vain - after 10 minutes all had gone, the water was stronger. The floods of Chao Phraya river flooded the almost 500 years old Chai Watthanaram temple in Ayuttaya. Now the helpers try to save at least the Stupa, the monument in the center of the historic plant - hindering that the basic walls will be damaged in the ground because the whole temple is in danger.

Since weeks there are floods in the northern provinces of Tailand. "That's the worst flood since 52 years", indicates teh chief of Ban-Tak province, Thanin Wichitrakoon. The floods have affected 28 provinces already, 2.6 million persons are affected according to government reports. In the province of Thanin, Ban-Tak, 42 villages can be reached only by boat.

182 streets are unusable in the desaster area, also the Asian highway, the most important connection between Bangkok to the north. Trains from the main town to Chiang Mai are stopped since days. The number of the lethal victims is more than 240. Three persons were missed. "And it will be worse yet", Wiboon Sanguanpong indicates. He is the director of teh center for crisis intervention and for the fight against the floods.>
