6c. Exercises against thumb pain

Principle 1: Exercises with tensions and pressure provoke that stem cells come for reconstructing new cartilage.

Principle 2: For having an effect an exercise has to last at least 3 minutes and there has to be a "tearing" effect.

Principle 3: The massage ball should be soft, should give in a little bit hindering aches with bones. Wooden balls or similar hard things must not be taken for this.

Many people suffer of a hurting thumb, among others by writing so many mobile phone messages. The diagnosis is called "Message Thumb" (9sec.). For each message letter, there is a residual contraction stress reaction increasing the tensation in the elbow (26sec.). What was written before with 10 fingers have to write the thumb alone today (44sec.). The diagnosis is called "thumb joint arthrosis" (1min.0sec.). But the pain is probably not from the joint, but from tension in the muscles and in the connective tissue (fascia). When these tensions are normalized, the cartilage in the joint can also return to normal (1min.51sec.). "Experts" reject that, but in the meantime it has even been proven, e.g. by a research group at the University of Utrecht (2min.7sec.).

Massage of the thenar and around the thenar

Massage: The forearm with the aching thumb is placed flat on a surface and with the small massage ball the thenar is massaged in circles, so that all metabolic wastes and waste matter with flammable things are driven out of the tissue (2min.57sec.).

An irritated area is always like a construction site with low levels of inflammation (3min.5sec.). With small massages, these inflammatory conditions are eliminated (3min.10sec.). Then the massage continues passing all the thenar muscle of the thumb (3min.34sec.). Detecting a hurting oint the bowl can remain there for some time (3min.53sec.). And never forget the breathing (5min.6sec.). This unrolling process can be made 2 to 3 times (5min.40sec.).

Exercise 1: Stretching the inside of the thumb

The outstretched arm with the hurting thumb is twisted 180 degrees, and with the other hand the thumb is torn softly to the belly so that the thenar of the thumb gets more and more tension (6min.6sec.).

The connective tissue is put into a stretched situation and will restructure (6min.55sec.). An exercise takes at least 2 minutes, so 2 to 2 1/2 minutes, so it gives the best effect (7min.19sec.). Then slowly get out of the exercise (7min.33sec.).

Exercise 2: Stretching the outside of the thumb with the fist and outstretched arm

Make a fist, stretch the arm, bend the wrist inward and turn the arm inwards (8min.3sec.). Thus, a tension develops over the thumb's outside up to the elbow (8min.10sec.). The thumb is more and more pulled into the bent position (9min.20sec.). "A slightly tormented smile is always the right expression" (9min.37sec.).

Man kann das Handgelenk weiter nach innen
                  ziehen, um die Spannung zu steigern.
You can pull the wrist further in to increase the tension.

At the end slowly come out again, only slowly move again, please. One should not be surprised if the thumb does not want to get out of the palm first. That's just a sign that the exercise was done well (10min.16sec.). Then rub the hands together and normalize (10min.23sec.).
