The many-banded krait (Bungarus multicinctus),
also known as the Taiwanese krait or the Chinese
krait, is a highly venomous species of elapid
snake found in much of central and southern

The illness was first reported in late
December 2019 in Wuhan, a major city in
central China, and has been rapidly spreading.
Since then, sick travelers from Wuhan have
infected people in China and other
countries, including the United States.

Using samples of the virus isolated from
patients, scientists in China have determined
the genetic code of the virus and used
microscopes to photograph it. The pathogen
responsible for this pandemic is a new
coronavirus. It’s in the same family of
viruses as the well-known severe acute respiratory
syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV)
and Middle East respiratory
syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV),
which have killed hundreds of people in the
past 17 years. The World Health Organization
(WHO) has named the new coronavirus 2019-nCoV.
We arevirologists and journal editors and
are closely following this outbreak because
there are many questions that need to be
answered to curb the spread of this public
health threat.
What is a coronavirus?
The name of coronavirus comes from its shape,
which resembles a crown or solar corona when
imaged using an electron microscope.

coronavirus was named. This image is of the
Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus
(MERS-CoV). National Institute of

Coronavirus is transmitted through the air
and primarily infects the upper respiratory
and gastrointestinal tract of mammals and
birds. Though most of the members of the
coronavirus family only cause mild flu-like
symptoms during infection, SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV can infect
both upper and lower airways and cause severe
respiratory illness and other complications in
humans.
This new 2019-nCoV causes similar symptoms to
SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV. People infected with
these coronaviruses suffer a severe
inflammatory response.
Unfortunately, there is no approved vaccine or
antiviral treatment available for coronavirus
infection. A better understanding of the life
cycle of 2019-nCoV, including the source of
the virus, how it is transmitted and how it
replicates are needed to both prevent and
treat the disease.
Zoonotic transmission
Both SARS and MERS are classified as zoonotic viral
diseases, meaning the first patients who were infected
acquired these viruses directly from animals. This was
possible because while in the animal host, the virus had
acquired a series of genetic mutations that allowed it to
infect and multiply inside humans.
Now these viruses can be transmitted from person to person.
Field studies have revealed that the original source
of SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV is the bat, and
that the masked palm civets (a mammal
native to Asia and Africa) and camels, respectively, served as
intermediate hosts between bats and humans.
In the case of this 2019 coronavirus outbreak, reports state that most of the
first group of patients hospitalized were workers or
customers at a local seafood wholesale market which also
sold processed meats and live consumable animals including
poultry, donkeys, sheep, pigs, camels, foxes, badgers,
bamboo rats, hedgehogs and reptiles. However, since no one
has ever reported finding a coronavirus infecting aquatic
animals, it is plausible that the coronavirus may have
originated from other animals sold in that market.

The hypothesis that the 2019-nCoV jumped from an animal at
the market is strongly supported by
a new publication in the Journal of Medical
Virology. The scientists conducted an analysis and compared
the genetic sequences of 2019-nCoV and all other known
coronaviruses.
The study of the genetic code of 2019-nCoV reveals that the
new virus is most closely related to two bat SARS-like
coronavirus samples from China, initially suggesting that,
like SARS and MERS, the bat might also be the origin of
2019-nCoV. The authors further found that the DNA coding
sequence of 2019-nCoV spike protein, which forms the “crown”
of the virus particle that recognizes the receptor on a host
cell, indicates that the bat virus might have mutated before
infecting people.
But when the researchers performed a more detailed
bioinformatics analysis of the sequence of 2019-nCoV, it
suggests that this coronavirus
might come from snakes.

From bats to snakes
The researchers used an analysis
of the protein codes favored by the new
coronavirus and compared it to the protein codes from
coronaviruses found in different animal hosts, like birds,
snakes, marmots, hedgehogs, manis [?], bats and humans.
Surprisingly, they found that the protein codes in
the 2019-nCoV are most similar to those used in snakes.

Snakes often hunt for bats in wild. Reports indicate
that snakes were sold in the local seafood
market in Wuhan, raising the possibility that the
2019-nCoV might have jumped from the host species—bats—to
snakes and then to humans at the beginning of this
coronavirus outbreak. However, how the virus could adapt to
both the cold-blooded and warm-blooded hosts remains a
mystery.

The authors of the report and other
researchers must verify the origin of the virus through
laboratory experiments. Searching for the 2019-nCoV sequence
in snakes would be the first thing to do. However, since the
outbreak, the seafood market has been disinfected and shut
down, which makes it challenging to trace the new virus’
source animal.

Sampling DNA from animals sold at the market and from wild
snakes and bats is needed to confirm the origin of the
virus. Nonetheless, the reported findings will also provide
insights for developing prevention and treatment protocols.
The 2019-nCoV outbreak is another reminder that people
should limit the consumption of wild animals to prevent zoonotic infections.
Editor’s Note (4/12/22): Our partners at The
Conversation have noted that, since the publication of
this article, the World Health Organization has said that
there is “no
conclusive evidence” that snakes were the source of
the virus, although the exact viral intermediate host
remains unknown.

allegations that the covid-19 virus, covid “vaccines” and at
least one covid treatment all originated from snake venom

called, “Watch the Water.” In the video, Bryan Ardis
expresses concern that snake venom-related molecules

aerosolization) in order to create a covid-19 “outbreak”
fear scenario that ultimately drove people into covid
vaccines, lockdowns, mask mandates and other forms of mass
medical hysteria.
We also interviewed Dr. Ardis about this same topic. In a
largely unedited interview, Dr. Ardis shared with us his
extensive research linking snake venom to antibodies,
vaccine production, and eerily similar side effects observed
from mRNA vaccines and covid treatments. As Dr. Ardis
explains in the video (below), every single side effect
attributed to covid-19 is also a known effect from toxic
venom exposure.

requesting an interview with their Chief Science Officer to
answer these allegations and present their side of the story
on this important issue. So far, no response has been
received from Gilead.

internet search reveals plenty of mainstream media
publications admitting at the onset of the Covid outbreak
that it may have been derived from snakes,” reports
InfoWars.com. “From Scientific American to CNN, the
snake theory was promoted widely at first.”

Essentially, after realizing how odd it was that
antivenom medicines like monoclonal antibodies
were effectively treating Covid, Dr. Ardis
began questioning the narrative that the virus
originated from a bat in a Chinese wet market.
“Is Covid a venom, and this is why they don’t want
you using monoclonal antibodies?” Dr. Ardis asked.

To answer this question, Dr. Ardis sought out
establishment media “fact-checkers” to see if they
were attempting to discredit any claims that the
source of Covid-19 was a snake and not a bat.

media publications admitting at the onset of the Covid
outbreak that it [the coronavirus] may have been
derived from snakes [snake venoms].

“Every time the snake is mentioned, fact-checkers
1,2,3,4,5,6 constantly fact-check it and spin it to
the bats. There is no fact-checking about bats. They
keep letting you look at bats,” Dr. Ardis said.
The doctor also claimed that Chinese scientists
dismissed the bat theory at the beginning of the Covid
outbreak because the type of bats the virus allegedly
came from were hibernating at the time.

He also said genetic sequence testing done on sick
patients in Wuhan found their genetic sequence matched
two snakes, the Chinese Krait and King Cobra,

A 2021 study also connected the
Chinese Krait and King Cobra to the Covid-19 spike
protein, explaining, “the discovery of a superantigen-like

two other neurotoxin-like motifs that have
peptide similarities to neurotoxins from Ophiophagus ([King]
cobra) and Bungarus genera.“
[Hydroxychloroquine HCQ blocks nicotine receptors
in the brain stem so the snake toxins cannot be

Later during the interview, Dr. Ardis touched on the
fact that hydroxychloroquine, defamed by the media,
has been known to block nicotine receptors in the
brain stem from being injured by cobra and viper
venom.

Meanwhile, Remdesivir, the drug touted [propagated]
by the medical and media establishments and the only
drug approved for human use against Covid in the US, looks
shockingly similar to snake venom when
stored for medical use.
Under the Emergency Use Authorization for Remdesivir,
Dr. Ardis explained that every patient must have their
prothrombin time (a measurement judging how long it
takes for a clot to form in a blood sample) tested
before and during treatment because their blood could
start to clot.
Both Remdesivir and King Cobra venom increase
prothrombin time in test subjects, and as the doctor
noted, a 2021 University of Arizona study examining
blood samples from hundreds of people who died after
being treated with Remdesivir found the drug raced
through their bodies “like [snake] venom.”

When it comes to spreading snake venom to the public,
Dr. Ardis theorized the public drinking supply might
be contaminated.
This idea was sparked after the CDC announced
wastewater surveillance is being used to provide an
“early warning of COVID-19’s spread in communities.”
[Dr. Ardis]: “That is completely backwards,” the
doctor said. “If a community has had SARS-CoV-2 go
through their body, they already had their symptoms.
When they eliminated the virus, supposedly the virus,
and it ends up in your wastewater, they no longer have
symptoms.” [So the early warning system controlling
waste water is a complete nonsense - but it's not a
nonsense to control waste water when snake venom is in
the drinking water being eliminated by kidneys fluing
away in the urine into the waste water].

venom, this snake venom is not absorbed by the human
body, but is excreted directly. You may believe this

The loss of taste and smell is also a side-effect of
snake venom hitting a person’s mouth, according to Dr.
Ardis.
Obviously, losing smell and taste is an odd issue
associated with Covid-19.

“They are using the waters systems because they can
target certain demographics,” he continued before
telling Peters he doesn’t think the people working at
local water plants are in on the scheme.

using Krait venom and Cobra venom, calling it
Covid-19, you’re drinking it, it’s getting into your
brain stem and it’s paralyzing your diaphragm’s
ability to breathe [breathing arrest].”

He also noted that the connection between nicotine
receptors in the brain and snake venom explains why
smokers weren’t being affected by Covid in the same

blocking the nicotine receptors].

to do it through this mRNA technology,” he stated.
“They are using mRNA, I believe extracted from the

The study:
Abstract
Despite underreporting
and “dry” bites (bites by venomous snakes without
envenoming), snake envenomation is a cause of high
morbidity and mortality in the suburban and rural areas
of tropical and subtropical world. In addition to local
effects at the site of the bite, envenomation affects
almost all the tissues in the body both primarily or
secondarily. Envenomation is known to cause
cardiotoxicity. Multiple case reports of myocardial
infarction (MI) following snake bites have been
reported. We hereby present the first systematic review
of such cases. Our review revealed that MI following
envenomation is mostly reported in young adult males
from tropical and subtropical world with no history of
coronary artery risk factors. Most of the cases
presented 60 minutes after the bite. Among the cases
that reported electrocardiography (EKG) findings, 63%
had ST-segment elevation. 88% of the cases had elevated
troponin levels. 75% of the reported echocardiograms had
wall motion abnormality. All patients who had emergent
coronary angiography were noted to have a “culprit”
vessel. 25% of the cases suffered cardiac arrest and 25%
subsequently passed away. The pathophysiology of MI
following envenomation is multifactorial. When MI is
suspected, coronary angiography should be considered
after hemodynamic stability and anti-venom therapy is
ensued.
Despite underreporting
of up to 70%, annually 4.5–5.4 million people are known
to suffer from snake bites in the world, of whom 1.8–2.7
million people are known to develop symptoms [1].
Snake bite envenomation is a public health problem in
tropical and subtropical areas of oceania, southeast
Asia, middle-east, Africa and Latin America, especially
in rural and suburban areas [1].

Poison Control Centers reported 6000 snake bites in the
U.S. of which 2000 were related to venomous snakes [2–4].
“Dry” bites don’t result in signs or symptoms of
envenomation [5].
Envenomation results in a variety of local and systemic
signs and symptoms which in turn is species dependent [6].
Multiple recent case reports have reported myocardial
infarction (MI) following snake bites (Table
1). We hereby present the first
literature review of such cases.
On November 20th, 2017 a
systematic search was conducted using Pub Med, Google
Scholar, CINAHL, Cochrane CENTRAL and Web of Science
databases using the keywords “snake bite, heart,
myocardial infarction (MI), ST segment elevation
myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-ST segment
elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI)” to identify
cases of MI after snake bite. The reference list of each
report was also checked for additional cases. All the
reported cases were carefully read and reviewed.
Demographic data, snake species, time from snake bite to
symptoms, CV risk factors, electrocardiography (EKG)
findings, troponin levels, transthoracic
echocardiography (TTE), angiography, and management when
available were tabulated and reviewed.
A total of 21 reported cases
were identified from the search (Table
2). 81% of the cases were reported from
tropical and subtropical world. Country distribution is
as follows: India 10 cases (50%), Sri Lanka 5 cases
(25%), Brazil 1 case (5%), Greece 1 case (5%), Israel 1
case (5%), Jordan 1 case (5%), South Africa 1 case (5%)
and the United States 1 case (5%). The environment of
bite was reported in 10 cases of which 9 (90%) happened
in field. Mean age at presentation was 35 ± 25 years
(Median age 35 years, 25th percentile 29.5 years, 75th
percentile 49 years). 76% were males and 24% females. 5%
of the cases had diabetes and coronary artery disease
each. The snake species was reported in 19 cases of
which 90% was Viper family snake bite and 5% each was
Black Mamba and Elapide snake bite. Chest pain (78%)
following snake bite was the symptom that prompted the
suspicion of MI. Time from bite to onset of MI symptom
was reported in 13 cases, median time being 60 mins
(Mean 1221 mins, standard deviation 3962 mins, 25th
percentile 0 mins, 75th percentile 240 mins). Mean heart
rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure was 103±20
per minute, 101±35 mm Hg, and 72±19 mm Hg respectively.
EKG findings were reported in 20 cases, of which 65%
were ST-segment elevation and 10% ST-segment depression.
Other EKG findings were T wave inversion in 5%, T wave
flattening in 5% and QT prolongation in 5%.

8 cases reported troponin levels, 88% ofwhich
were elevated. Transthoracic echocardiogram was
performed in 8, 75% of whom had wall motion
abnormalities. 3 patients had emergent angiography and
were noted to have a “culprit” vessel and normal
coronaries were noted in 4 cases who had elective
angiography. 24% patients had cardiac arrest, of which
14% was ventricular fibrillation and 5% had asystole.
67% of the cases reported
anti-venom use. Comorbid conditions were: Stroke (10%),
shock (15%), acute kidney injury (20%), microangiopathic
hemolytic anemia (10%), pulmonary edema (5%), deep vein
thrombosis (5%), sepsis (5%) and thrombocytopenia (5%).
Mortality was 25%.
Despite a high incidence of
snake bites, the mortality and morbidity is surprisingly
low because up to 25% of the bites are “dry” bites [1, 28].
Viperidae family snakes are found across the globe,
though species do vary depending on the geographical
location [29].
Apart from local symptoms, components of viper
envenomation are known to be a “hemotoxin” [blood
poison], a “myotoxin” [muscle poison], a “cardiotoxin”
[heart poison] and a “neurotoxin” [nerve poison] [29].
Snake venom is a complex mixture of proteins and enzymes
such as phospholipase A2, proteolytic enzymes,
collagenase, hyaluronidase, thrombin like enzyme etc [29].
Viper bite is known to cause hypovolemic shock secondary
to extravasation of fluid due to increased vascular
permeability, disseminated intravascular coagulation and
consumptive coagulopathy hence bleeding [29, 30].
The pathophysiology behind MI following viper
envenomation is not known. Various mechanisms that have
been proposed and attributed are hypovolemic and
anaphylactic shock [31],
coronary thrombosis due to the procoagulant factors in
venom [11, 32],
direct toxic effect on cardiomyocytes [33],
decrease oxygen carrying capacity of blood due to
hemolysis, coronary vasoconstriction brought about by
endothelins and safatoxins in venom [34],
myocarditis with extensive myocardial necrosis [35],
and myocardial hemorrhage and microvascular thrombin
deposition [36] (Figure 1).

Postulated Pathogenetic Mechanisms of Myocardial
Infarction after Snake Envenomation
This systematic review shows
that acute MI is a possible cardiac manifestation
following envenomation. The majority of the patients
were young adults from tropical and subtropical nations
without cardiovascular risk factors, this finding is
because majority of snake bites happen in this cohort [1, 28].
94% of the cases were post viperidae family
envenomation. Chest pain was the most common symptom of
MI, most of which happened at an hour following
envenomation. Regional wall motion abnormality was often
noted. 25% of patients had cardiac arrest and the
mortality was high at 25%. Thus, if MI is suspected
after envenomation, coronary angiography should be
considered after attainment of hemodynamic stability and
antivenom therapy.
