Natural Allergy Solutions – Say goodbye to allergies

Dr. Uri Kenig, March 2012

Suffering from allergies? You are not alone
Allergies are very common among people of all ages (see list of common symptoms). It is estimated that 1 out of every 5 Americans suffer from allergies.
Undiagnosed allergies can develop over time into all sorts of stubborn chronic conditions including inflammation, infection, asthma and bronchitis, headaches, digestive problems and more. In many instances the sufferer is not even aware he is allergic to a specific substance. Allergies can become a serious problem and if not treated interfere with the quality of life and compromise our well being!

Allergies affect people of all ages, as young as new born babies
When we are just born the immune system is not fully developed yet, and can mistakenly react to harmless substances as if these are dangerous and produce an allergy. Allergies can make babies quite miserable (and their parents too…), restless and colicky. Symptoms as skin rashes, digestive difficulties, and nasal congestion are often triggered by allergies. Ear and eye infections are common symptoms in children that can develop due to allergies.

What is an allergy anyway?
An allergy is an hypersensitivity of the immune system to normally harmless substance that is set in the body memory. Once it is triggered, the body reacts by releasing chemicals that produce the allergic reaction in different systems in the body. It can be triggered by what we eat, smell, touch, or even remember or imagine.
The common types of allergies people suffer from are: Food allergies, seasonal allergies, pet allergies environmental allergies Medication/supplements allergies.

Why do we keep getting allergies?
As amazing as the immune system in protecting us from invaders like bacteria, viruses and poisons it sometimes makes mistakes. In certain situations it misidentifies friendly substances as harmful, and then attacks the substances with ferocity far greater than required. This attack can cause symptoms ranging from mildly uncomfortable to sever problems.
This exaggerated response gets embedded in the immune system forming antibodies which are our body memory. From now on and every time you come in contact with this specific food or substance, antibodies in your blood trigger a response that includes the release of histamines and other substances. Within minutes to hours, a variety of symptoms, including itchy mouth, swollen tongue, hives, wheezing, skin rashes, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, inflammation, aches and pains and more severe symptoms, start to manifest. At its worst, the reaction is anaphylaxis – a potentially life-threatening reaction that can occur within seconds and may lead to shock, airway closure and a blood-pressure drop.

Multiple allergies and stress
Have you ever noticed that when you feel stressed and experience emotional overload you tend to sneeze more, your skin gets itchier, you feel more pain and being attacked by more symptoms.
Research is finding that hormones (like Cortisol) and brain chemicals (like adrenaline) released into the bloodstream while under stress over activate the immune system and can trigger allergic reactions to different substances we come to contact with at the time.
Overactive nervous system due to worry or traumatic stress can create multiple allergies to almost everything. This is an indication of an immune system in a full blown attack mode.

The common approach to dealing with allergies
The most widespread strategies people have to dealing with allergies are – avoid them, suppress them with drugs or learn to live with them. These approaches may help manage some of the symptoms, some of the time, but it doesn’t eliminate the problem- the allergy itself.

The alternative approach to clearing allergies, even stubborn ones!
Wouldn’t it be better if there was an allergy treatment alternative to drugs, shots or other invasive intervention? The good news there is one.
In this approach, instead of trying to fight the allergy, the focus of treatment is on “turning off” the exaggerated response of the immune system in the presence of the allergen, helping the immune system to replace it with a welcoming response, eliminating the need to fight harmless substances for no reason.

Say goodbye to allergies for good, it’s possible
The first step in elimination allergies is to identify the exact substances the immune system is over-reacting to. This is done using a bio feedback technique called muscle testing which can uncover blocks in the energy pathways in the body caused by the allergy. Many people who suffer from different symptoms are surprised to find out they are allergic to seemingly harmless things, and even healthy people are surprised to find they are allergic too. The clearing process involves gentle stimulating of specific reflex points and spinal nerves while making contact with the allergen. This intervention restores a balanced response to the body, nervous and the immune systems. The outcome in most cases of the treatment is that the body no longer has to over reacts to the allergen, which means that the allergy was successfully eliminated and the person can be in touch with these allergens with no consequences.

Asthma & Bronchitis
http://ipectherapy.com/articles/asthma-bronchitis/

Begin reverse your breathing problems today

Dr. Uri Kenig, April 2013

Are you one of those people suffering from a breathing problem with no end in sight?
If you have chronic Asthma, Bronchitis, heavy breathing, COPD or any other breathing conditions, this article is going to help you find an important answer to your problem.
Millions of people of all ages in the US suffer from chronic respiratory symptoms and use inhalers, nebulizers and other anti-inflammatory drugs to breathe normally. Let’s face it, it is impossible to function normally and feel well when breathing is compromised. Many sufferers resign to the notion that they have to live with their breathing problem for the rest of their lives, and continue using the prescribed drugs, giving up hope for a lasting solution.

What is wrong with the common treatment for breathing problems?

Link: Common symptoms in Asthma & bronchitis website article

The common Doctor’s recommendation for breathing problems is prescription drugs for symptom relief. Did you ever stop to think about what these drugs really do? Probably not. The ”magic” of these drugs is symptom suppression, to relieve the discomfort and pain yet it does not equal healing or cure! For the simple reason that nothing is really done to reverse the cause of the problem and restore healthy breathing.

What is the cause for most breathing problems?
For all those who suffer from hyperventilation, asthma, bronchitis, and other respiratory problems, it might come as a big surprise to find out that the cause of most of these difficulties is simple – over breathing.
While over breathing or hyperventilation is associated with anxiety, and loud snoring may be the punch line of many jokes on married couples, these are indications for breathing problems that may end up becoming serious issues for your respiratory system and general health.
On the surface, it might sound contradictory that over breathing is linked with breathing difficulties, but numerous research studies validate the findings that under the influence of physical, emotional or mental stress, we tend to breathe faster, through our mouth consuming large amounts of oxygen in an effort to supply our body with more oxygen.
At the same time, we also exhale a considerable amount of Carbon dioxide (co2). What most people don’t know is that in order to absorb and utilize oxygen efficiently in our body, we need the presence of about 7% Carbon Dioxide (co2).
Without it, the oxygen can’t be transported and absorbed efficiently into the cells and tissue all over the body. Breathing this way over time develops into a habitual breathing stress pattern and leads to a decrease in metabolism, compromised immune system and build up of inflammation that leads to atherosclerosis formation. All these changes lead to gradual oxygen deprivation in the cells that eventually develops into respiratory ailments.

The solution:
Teach your respiratory system to breath normally while eliminating the causes creating stress in the mind
Extensive research found out different natural ways to teach the respiratory system to breath naturally and effectively, i.e., to supply the needed amounts of oxygen to every cell in the body, while maintaining the required levels of CO2 all over the body at any given moment.
Since the respiratory system is easily influenced by chronic states of stress, it is quickly adopting Mal-functioning habits of breathing. Having said that, it just makes sense that the respiratory system is able to learn to breath normally and naturally again.
Teaching the respiratory system to breath normally again can take place in two forms:

  • Breathing exercise protocols
  • Using breathing devices

These methods of breathing, are focusing on the three elements needed to restore normal breathing:

  1. Reduce Oxygen intake (hypoxia)
  2. Increase CO2 intake (hypercapnia)
  3. Strengthen the respiratory system’s muscles (mainly the Diaphragm)

When a protocol of systemic breathing exercises is taking place, is geared mainly towards the first two elements – Reduce oxygen intake and increase CO2 intake. This leads to normalizing of the over breathing (hyperventilation), hence, the entire body, and not only the respiratory system, gets more oxygen and the low levels of CO2 are replenished. These exercises require time, effort, discipline and perseverance, but are definitely improving the breathing efficacy altogether.

Training with breathing devices will improve significantly all three breathing elements – reduce oxygen intake, increase CO2 intake and strengthen the respiratory system’s muscles. And while improving the physical aspect of breathing, one has to eliminate all the hindering triggers that caused and keep causing his stress system to be activated on a constant basis with no relief. This perpetual activation, send signals to bring in more air in order to supply the extra need in oxygen under the survival demands that keep inflicting the person’s mind. The triggers for the survival mode are traumatic based beliefs, that even though may have been formed years before, these still surfacing in non-threatening events, misinterpreting the current events as ones with potential to threat the very survival of the person.Since these beliefs are data recorded in the mind, carrying powerful negative charge, this charge, while being properly identified, can convert to be either benign or positive charge. This kind of therapy would reduce dramatically the load from the stress system, and will be able to support the acceleration and the quality of the process of teaching the respiratory system to breath normally and healthily.

Diabetes Care – Sugar Stress Connection
http://ipectherapy.com/articles/diabetes-sugar-stress-connection/

Dr. Uri Kenig, February 2013

Is glucose (sugar) good for your health?
Everyone has glucose (sugar) in their blood. It is the fuel for the body’s cells. Glucose comes from the food we eat as well as what the body produces. Insulin, produced in the pancreas, moves the sugar from the blood stream to the cells where it is used for energy. In diabetes, sugar cannot travel from the blood stream into the body cells so it stays in the blood. This is caused when either when the body does not produce enough insulin or when it does not use insulin correctly. Over time, high blood sugar, called hyperglycemia, can lead to serious health problems such as heart attacks, strokes, and blindness.

What is the sugar-stress connection?
Millions of Americans suffer from type 2 diabetes and fluctuating sugar
levels which not surprisingly have strong associations with stress.
People with diabetes can’t keep a lid on blood sugar, says David Sledge, MD, medical director of diabetes management at The Ochsner Clinic Foundation in Baton Rouge, La. It is mainly due to an increased production of stress hormones that reduce insulin action. In addition, under stress, people tend to eat comfort foods that are loaded with sugar and avoid exercise which further exacerbates the situation.
When we are stressed, our blood glucose (sugar) levels in the body shoots up very quickly. Stress hormones like Epinephrine and Cortisol kick in. One of their major functions is to raise blood sugar to help boost energy when it’s needed most. Think of the fight-or-flight response. You can’t fight danger when your blood sugar is low, so it rises to help meet the challenge.
Stress can send our blood sugar out of whack. When it is situational and temporary it is not associated with diabetes. Generally, it is the longer-term stress reactions that tax the system and have much more effect on blood sugar levels. This is when the system is weakening.

What is Insulin resistance?
In this condition muscles, fat and liver cells are resistant to entry of glucose and as a result this sugar stays in the blood stream. Long term stress can affect Insulin resistance. The pancreas produces more insulin to deal with the problem which causes more build up of sugar in the blood. The end result is both high levels of glucose and insulin in the blood which increases the chance of developing type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

How can you manage your glucose levels?
People with diabetes tend to use insulin to manage glucose level. This intervention may balance glucose levels temporarily until the next spike or drop in glucose levels. It is important to address the role stress plays in the “sugar roller coaster”. Clearing unhealthy stress reactions and developing healthy life style habits can lead to better glucose control, improvement in immune system function and reverse or minimize the diabetes conditions. Developing a well balanced diet and incorporating exercise is important as part of a comprehensive approach.

IPEC Therapy® is an integrative body-mind treatment that works to help you identify and transform how you react and cope with stress so you can get off the blood sugar roller coaster . This is done using the natural biofeedback system within your body.

Nervous Tics / Tourette’s Syndrome
http://ipectherapy.com/articles/nervous-tics-tourettes-syndrome/

The Brain-Mind Connection

Dr. Uri Kenig, October 2010

Question markWhat is a tic?

Most people don’t know that a tic is actually a muscle spasm that goes through the emotional part of the brain before it makes the muscle move. Many of the tics people have involve involuntary twitches mostly in the face, arms or shoulders. Typically, the twitching occurs in the corner of the mouth, grimacing, twitching of the corner of the eye, blinking, or jerking movements with the arms, shoulders, neck or hands. In some sever cases nail biting is considered a tic as well.
Nervous tics occur in sudden bouts and are very difficult to control. While some people manage to suppress them for a short time, it usually takes a lot of concentration and can be exhausting. In fact, suppressing tics is like trying to suppress a sneeze that really wants to come out, and once released; most people feel a sense of relief afterwards.
Tourette’s syndrome includes both body and vocal tics like throat clearing ,grunting, squeaking, or repeating words. It can also include blurting out obscene words or gestures with little control.

Who tends to suffer from tics?

Nervous tics typically develop in children and teens, and while many of  them
are transient and disappear after a while, few weeks or months, sometimes tics can
become a life-long problem.
Often, the person who has tics is disconnected from the source of the stress that triggered it while the muscles continue to spasm. Research studies found a link between tics and the sympathetic nervous system (SNC) which controls the bodily reactions to emotions. Chronic anxiety, stress and unresolved trauma can trigger over activity of the sympathetic nervous system that doesn’t turn off. It triggers among other things ongoing involuntary muscle twitching.
Nervous tics can be difficult to manage and while there are a few prescription medications to control the symptoms, most come with unwanted side-effects, and do not address the root cause of the problem. The natural treatment for Tics
IPEC Therapy is a natural body-mind treatment that can help eliminate or decrease tics significantly by transforming how the body and the mind respond to stress.  The treatment focus is on “ turning off” and calming the overactive sympathetic nervous system(SNC) and  helping the body-mind system to identify and release physical and mental stress in ways that allow the nervous system to  stay relaxed and balanced.

Skin Disorders

The Mind-Skin Connection

Dr. Uri Kenig, June 2011

Two hands - skin disorderWhat do you need to know about skin?

We don’t realize it but our skin is an organ just like the heart, lung and liver. Actually, it is the body’s largest organ and perhaps it’s most sensitive. The skin has a large amount of nerve endings networked through the entire skin, to sense the outside environment and react to it and it is closely connected with our nervous system and brain.
The skin is also our boundary with the outside world. Researchers studying the field of mind-skin connection have discovered that the body’s reaction to feelings of high alert and difficulties to protect psychological boundaries like saying “no”, setting limits and expressing emotions, creates stress, that if not released, can find its way out to the surface, often through the skin. How can emotional turmoil trigger or aggravate skin problems?
Unresolved Stress and emotional factors can affect the skin health by setting off several physiological reactions in the body:
1. Release of hormones like Cortisol that thicken hair follicle cells and increase oil production, the perfect recipe for Acne.
2. Release of neuropeptides, chemicals unleashed from nerve endings in the skin that leave it red, itchy and inflamed.
3.  Production of T- cells by the immune system, the skin’s infection fighters that overreact, causing redness, flake and scale.
4. blood vessels under stress become more reactive; either constricted (so skin looks pale or yellow) or opening too widely (causing the skin to flush).
Stress can tip the balance between dormant viruses  and immune system and lead to an outbreak of shingles, herpes and cold sores. Stress also affects the skin’s repair mechanisms and that is why it takes longer than usual to heal. Many times, the efforts to avoid stressful situations and the feelings aroused because of it, trigger the skin symptoms. What can be done if your skin problems just don’t go away?
If you suffer from some chronic skin problems that don’t go away with dermatological medical treatment, we offer a highly effective treatment to clear your skin problems from the inside out.
IPEC Therapy® is an integrative body-mind treatment that helps you transform the way your body and mind react to stress, so it doesn’t have to flair you skin. Using the natural biofeedback system in your body, your skin clears up naturally and you develop psychological resilience to deal with stress in healthy ways without aggravating your skin.

About Energy – Part 1
http://ipectherapy.com/articles/energy-part-1/

Part 1 of 3

Dr. Uri Kenig, December 2005

The Universe
Looking up in the sky at night, every night, for years, for decades, for millennia, we see the same patterns of stars, changing according to the seasons’ alternations, but keeping all along the same order. It all seems set in a stationary position, lacking movement but it is not so. There is a constant movement taking place all along, influencing and determining our lives. Let us view some data:

• The Moon is circulating around its own axis at a speed of ~13 Miles per Hour (MPH) (~21 Kilometers per Hour [KPH]), while circulating the Earth in a speed of ~1,900 MPH (~3,000 KPH).
• The Earth is circulating around its own axis at a speed of ~1,100 MPH (~1,800 KPH), while circulating the Sun in a speed of ~67,000 MPH (~107,200 KPH).
• The Solar System is circulating within its own galaxy, The Milky Way, at a speed of ~560,000 MPH (~900,000 KPH).
• The Milky Way is circulating around Local Group of Galaxies (whose distance from The Milky Way galaxy ranges from 30 light years to hundreds of light years) at a speed of ~1,100,000 MPH (~1,800,000 KPH).
Can you imagine what kind of speeds are we talking about? The amazing thing is that these speeds, all proportions of distances and positions between Earth and its Moon, the Sun, the other planets in the solar system, and the location within our own Milky Way galaxy, all of these have been kept accurately all along. Everything is constantly moving in a coordinated manner, like an endless dance with countless partners, keeping all along the same celestial stability and order. This is really amazing. What is the power that holds it altogether?
This picture of the universe has been accurately reflected in each of the living species on earth. For example, all humans are built and constructed almost identically across geography and race. In the human body the location of organs and tissues are the same, the physiology is the same. From the moment of fertilization, all new cells know exactly where to go and what is their role in the emerging body-mind. The relationship between the organs and tissues are being kept the same, even though every cell in the body keeps changing once a year. The person looks like a steady object but even when he stands still or is asleep, there is a constant inner movement in the tissues and the organs. The heart is constantly beating, the lungs ceaselessly pumping air, the blood keeps flowing, the muscles are tensing and relaxing, the nervous system is regularly firing electrical pulses, the brain is incessantly processing thoughts, feelings and images and every cell in the body is continuously vibrating in a specific predetermined pace. There is a constant dynamic movement all along, yet, everything is at the same place, keeps same distances and proportions, in an amazing celestial order. The same question should be asked again: what is the power that holds it all together?

Energy’s Continuous Flow
For the entire history of mankind, people have been trying to explain this force. The physicists explain it as gravity while religions endow it to spiritual explanations of higher powers. I will not get into this debate that goes along with the old issue of evolution vs. creation. These debates try to make sense of our life phenomena through presentation of explanations. For the purpose of understanding the issues of energy, I will not try to explain these phenomena, but rather, I will observe it the way it is manifested. I would name this absolute power as energy. It is steadily flowing throughout every manifestation of life and inanimate objects. It flows through all the living creatures, between them through the geography of the planets, through the solar system, through all galaxies, through the entire universe.
The energy is being manifested in different ways: fire, air blow, heat, cold, water, gases, weather conditions, explosions, radiation, electricity, radio waves, electromagnetism, gravity, light spectrum, plant growth, vibrations of the living creatures, thoughts, feelings and more ways of energy manifestations.
This celestial order is being maintained because all objects have each a specific energetic identification code; each object radiates a unique energy pattern that might be similar to those emitted by other objects, but is not identical to the energy emitted by any other object. Each object is simultaneously playing a double role: being a transmitter and being a receiver at the same time; it is functioning like a broadcast unit, which is ceaselessly sending its specific energetic code, and it is functioning like an antenna, which ceaselessly keeps receiving multitude of specific energetic codes from all objects around it, in close and/or far proximity.
This is how energy is flowing from one particle to another, from one object to another, as tiny as a molecule and as gigantic as a planet. The object can be tangible like furniture, liquid, plant, body-limb, organ, an organ cell and many more. The object can be non-tangible like gas, radiation, radio waves, thoughts, feelings, ideas and many more.

About Energy – Part 2
http://ipectherapy.com/articles/energy-part-2/

Part 2 of 3

Energy Velocity in Relation to Body-Mind
Albert Einstein surprised the world in 1905 when he presented his theory of relativity. He showed how mass and energy are the same substance but with different manifestations. He determined that the ultimate speed in the universe is the speed of light (~188,000 miles per second; ~300,000 kilometers per second; ~675,000,000 MPH; ~1,080,000,000 KPH). So the speed of the energy that holds it all together is the speed of light or maybe even faster.
In order to try to comprehend the speed of the energy that holds the entire universe, let’s bear these simple facts in mind:

• A car engine rotates tens of times per second in order to propel a ~2000 pound car at a speed of up to ~140 miles per hour.
• A jet engine rotates thousands of times per second in order to lift in the air a weight of several tens of tons and is flying at an average speed of ~500 miles per hour.
• There are no technical and/or scientific means to measure the speed of vibrations of the living cell; it might be millions of vibrations per second.
• Try to imagine how many vibrations per second should the engine that energizes the universe, run? At what kind of speed does this energy need to flow in order to maintain and hold the entire universe hanging there in space?
This fast energy is the glue that connects all phenomena in the universe; giving us the impression that all is stationary while in reality it is all in constant movement, an extremely fast one. When all particles are connected together by the energy, the universe becomes one, one complete unit that contains it all. So when we talk about body or mind we are talking about the same thing; one is the reflection of the other and there are no boundaries where the mind ends and the body starts, or boundaries where the body ends and the mind starts.

Energy and the five senses
Throughout the history of mankind, humans have learned to master their environment to a large extent. They have learned to utilize different aspects of energy, from the discovery of fire in the ancient days, through the invention of steam engines to more complex forms of engines; from the discovery of electricity, electromagnetism, radio waves, until today’s advanced world of airplanes, computers, space travel, satellites broadcast, cellular telephones, and technology that makes day-to-day life more comfortable.
Humans have taken these aspects of energy for granted. Yesterday’s invention amazed them but today they are already used to it, waiting for the next new surprise. People have been focusing on the phenomena captured by their five senses and naturally have ignored whatever is beyond the range of their senses (e.g. ultra violet and infra red rays). As we know, energy has been manifested in so many ways. Our five senses help us to be oriented through our environment. We see objects; we hear, smell, taste and touch them. We are able instantly to distinguish among all their forms; the tangible solids and liquids that we can smell and hear, and for the most part we ignore all other forms that cannot be perceived with our five senses. Our technology has helped us detect many other energy manifestations that are out of our range, but it did not help us a bit to improve our ability to grasp phenomena beyond our five senses.
Cellular telephones are a must in our modern life and since this instrument is doing its job, only few would bother to wonder how the voice travels to this gadget, what the voices are made of and how a picture travels through air into the cellular phone screen.

Energy and Research
History
So while the majority of people have been busy with their routine life, relying mainly on the world as it is captured by their five senses, there have always been groups of people that could not rest and accept as a total truth what is perceived through the five senses.
This group is called researchers. We have heard about their findings along the history of mankind. Seven thousand years ago the Chinese found the energy of life which they named Chi, and developed the system of Acupuncture. There are the Greek philosophers and scientists that found more than three thousand years ago some basic truths about our life energy and how to incorporate it to the medical field. One prominent name is Sir Isaac Newton who made a falling apple famous and those parts of his mathematical formula are  still valid today. The list is long, but I would like to focus only on a few researchers in order to get the flavor of how advanced is the research of different aspects of energy, and how energy therapy could emerge through these important findings.

About Energy – Part 3
http://ipectherapy.com/articles/energy-part-3/

Part 3 of 3

Plants Research
A book by the name The Secret Life of Plants was published in the early 1970’s. The authors contended that plants hold certain consciousness in a form of unique energy, which is unlike the regular consciousness of humans. They reported about numerous experiments made by researchers across the globe indicating that plants radiate unique energy as a communication mechanism with their environment.

Marcel Vogel, a notorious expert on crystal healing energy, decided to experiment with plants energy. He reported that plants can get “hurt” by human thoughts and bad intentions, or can “feel” thrilled and alive in the presence of people’s good intentions. When people intentionally gave affection and attention to detached leaves that were put on a glass plate, these leaves remained alive green and fresh for days. At the same time similar detached leaves that were put in glass plates in the same room but did not get any attention died very soon after the experiment started.
In another set of experiments during the late 1960’s, the world-renowned expert on Lie Detector machines, Cleve Backster, used a Lie Detector machine, like the one used by police, to measure the subtle electrical energy discharged by plants. The Lie Detector machine is an electronic device that is reactive to very low electrical currents. Sets of wires connected to the machine are attached to the surface of leaves or plants with electrodes. The machine is also connected to a metal needle with ink in it, and whenever the machine senses an electrical charge, it moves the needle across a roll of paper to create a specific pattern of drawing.
Cleve Backster found that the intensity of the energy discharged from the surface of leaves differed from plant to plant and at times, even differed from one leaf to another, belonging to the same plant. In order to check how systemic the phenomena he had measured were, he experimented with different kinds of intentions in his mind as:
* Intention to love the plant.
* Intention to tear it apart.
* Intention to keep the leaf intact while maintaining a fake thought that he is going to tear it up.
* Intention to tear it apart while maintaining a fake thought that he is going to keep the leaf intact
The leaves always reacted in distress to the bad intentions by discharging significant subtle energy and stayed with low discharge when there was no real threat. When he focused his attention to love and admire the beauty of the leaf, a smooth and large electrical discharge showed on the drawing pattern.
Marcel Vogel replicated Cleve Backster’s findings. He found out that there were researchers that could not replicate the results of these experiments while other researchers could. He concluded that when a researcher gave mechanistic attention and not genuine affection from the heart, the plants knew the difference, thus did not respond to the mechanistic researcher. Researchers that did not really believe in this “crazy” stuff and kept an inner attitude of disrespect towards the entire experimentation process, even though they were doing all the procedures right, had not achieved any results and the drawing were sporadic and held no patterns in them.
These findings and many others alike, hold in them the essence of the secret of healing; the inner intentions of the therapist as well as the intentions of the client are the key for successful healing. These intentions are the channel that connects the total energy of the universe to the self-healing mechanism residing in any human being. In my years as a therapist and as a teacher these findings of Marcel Vogel were confirmed in my experience time and time again. A correct therapeutic procedure done by a therapist that in his heart does not feel the truth of energy therapy premises will yield no therapeutic results.
Gary Schwartz, a professor of Psychology in the University of Arizona, wanted to follow the findings reported in The Secret Life of Plants from a different angle. He decided to explore in 2003 whether plants hold energy. He built a sophisticated camera device to take pictures in a completely darkened room. Leaves were placed in the dark room for hours prior to their pictures being taken, in order to settle down in the darkness. Then the camera’s shutter was opened for hours and could collect in this pitch-black environment pictures of the energy that the plants emitted in a form of light. This light was seen at the margins of the leaf and along all the net of fibers that was laid along the leaf. In another experiment, leaves were torn apart, and then were laid on a glass plate. The pictures that were produced later showed that the torn edges radiated with a stronger light than the natural edges. Gary Schwartz could show through these experiments two findings:
1. All organic forms of life constantly emit energy.
2. When an organic form of energy gets wounded (torn leave), it redirects its energy towards the injured site (like the immune system activity in humans) in order to promote healing. Research in Energy Therapy
Different forms of magnet therapy may go back to one hundred thousand years ago. Ancient cultures would use kinds of magnets and amber to promote healing. In modern days we are witnessing numerous energy healing methods like Reiki, Touch for Health, polarity therapy, tapping therapy and more. I would like to review a few aspects of energy therapy and research.
In 1773, Anton Mesmer started passing magnets next to his clients’ bodies; this created in them strong sensations like energy flowing through them. He later on found he could create the same results without magnets, using only his hands. He published his book Memoir on the Discovery of Animal Magnetism in 1779 in which he reported about the numerous experiments and findings he had with this therapy.
Spanning two hundred years, from the early 1700’s to the early 1900’s, electrotherapy was widespread and multiple devices were invented for the purpose of this therapy. One could find a variety of electrotherapy devices in the Sears Roebuck catalog in 1902. These therapies were highly popular and claimed to create all kinds of healing results. The lack of real medical standardization brought the federal government in USA to intervene, and eventually all electrotherapy devices were rendered illegal and ceased to exist for many years. It is only during recent years that there is a reemergence of therapy with electrical devices.
One prominent researcher was Harold Burr, an anatomy professor at Yale University from 1933 to 1973. He, like many other scientists at his time, was intrigued by trying to discover the “blueprint” of the living cell, how it receives the “commands” to become this organ or another and the body is evolved. He was sure that a multitude of energy fields is controlling our life, and standard devices can measure these energy fields. He was sure that since energy fields control every aspect of our body, any activity in the body, as health or disease, could be detected. In the mid thirties he tested these ideas on two frontiers:
• He reported about findings that a woman’s ovulation could be detected by an electrical device that can measure the subtle energy discharges from the reproductive system. The device measures the increasing electrical discharge from day to day prior to ovulation; once the ovulation is over, the measured electrical current drops dramatically.
• He reported measuring cancerous processes in different locations in the body that held different and unique electrical fields. He used special standardized devices to detect them.
Although in the mid thirties his experiments could not be replicated, in the last few years, new paradigms and better technology could prove his ideas have validity.
In another experiment, Gary Schwartz took two groups of Reiki therapists and asked them to administer a Reiki therapy session to E-coli bacteria. He placed the culture of bacteria in glass plates. The therapists had to place their hands close to the e-coli plates, without any physical contact with the bacteria and/or the plate itself, and/or any contact with their colleagues, all the while trying to project positive energy over the bacteria. He instructed the Reiki therapists to focus their attention on keeping the bacteria healthy and alive. Prior to the experiment and at the end of the experiment, all therapists filled in questionnaires about their self-esteem. The findings of the experiment were astonishing:
• Approximately 60% of the overall plates with cultures of bacteria had much more bacteria in them; they had proliferated during the course of the 45 minutes of the Reiki session.
• In the other 40% of the overall plates with cultures of bacteria, the number of e-coli decreased significantly, or remained the same.
• In the group that increased the number of e-coli, approximately 50% of them felt better about themselves, as it was reflected through the results of the questionnaires. The other 50% of the therapists in this group did not have any significant change in the way they felt about themselves.
• In the group that reduced the e-coli bacteria, approximately 60% of them felt worse about themselves as it was reflected through the results of the questionnaires. The other 40% of the therapists in this group did not have any significant change in the way they felt about themselves.
Isn’t it amazing? Someone is treating bacteria with energy (has no idea what  the result is because the results can be measured only by powerful microscope after the end of the session) and feeling good or bad about himself, corresponding to the increase or decrease in the number of the bacteria. This is the power of the energy of the mind over living matter.

Mind Over Genes
http://ipectherapy.com/articles/mind-genes/

Dr. Bruce Lipton, July 2009

Earlier in my career as a research scientist and medical school professor, I actively supported the perspective that the human body was a “biochemical machine ‘programmed’ by its genes. We scientists believed that our strengths, such as artistic or intellectual abilities, and our weaknesses, such as cardiovascular disease, cancer or depression, represented traits that were pre-programmed into our genes. Hence I perceived life’s attributes and deficits, as well as our health and our frailties as merely a reflection of our heredity expression.

Until recently, it was thought that genes were self-actualizing…that genes could ‘turn themselves on and off.’ Such behavior is required in order for genes to control biology. Though the power of genes is still emphasized in current biology courses and textbooks, a radically new understanding has emerged at the leading edge of cell science. It is now recognized that the environment, and more specifically, our perception (interpretation)of the environment, directly controls the activity of our genes. Environment controls gene activity through a process known as epigenetic control.

This new perspective of human biology does not view the body as just a mechanical device, but rather incorporates the role of a mind and spirit. This breakthrough in biology is fundamental in all healing for it recognizes that when we change our perception or beliefs we send totally different messages to our cells and reprogram their expression. The new-biology reveals why people can have spontaneous remissions or recover from injuries deemed to be permanent disabilities.

The functional units of life are the individual cells that comprise our bodies. Though every cell is innately intelligent and can survive on its own when removed from the body, in the body, each cell forgoes its individuality and becomes a member of a multicellular community. The body really represents the cooperative effort of a community of perhaps fifty trillion single cells. By definition, a community is an organization of individuals committed to supporting a shared vision. Consequently, while every cell is a free-living entity, the body’s community accommodates the wishes and intents of its ‘central voice,’ a character we perceive as the mind and spirit.

When the mind perceives that the environment is safe and supportive, the cells are preoccupied with the growth and maintenance of the body. In stressful situations, cells forgo their normal growth functions and adopt a defensive ‘protection’ posture. The body’s energy resources normally used to sustain growth are diverted to systems that provide protection during periods of stress. Simply, growth processes are restricted or suspended in a stressed system. While our systems can accommodate periods of acute (brief) stress, prolonged or chronic stress is debilitating for its energy demands interfere with the required maintenance of the body, and as a consequence, leads to dysfunction and disease.

The principle source of stress is the system’s ‘central voice,’ the mind. The mind is like the driver of a vehicle. With good driving skills, a vehicle can be maintained and provide good performance throughout its life. Bad driving skills generate most of the wrecks that litter the roadside or are stacked in junkyards. If we employ good “driving skills” in managing our behaviors and dealing with our emotions, then we should anticipate a long, happy and productive life. In contrast, inappropriate behaviors and dysfunctional emotional management, like a bad driver, stress the cellular ‘vehicle,’ interfering with its performance and provoking a breakdown.

Are you a good driver or a bad driver? Before you answer that question, realize that there are two separate minds that create the body’s controlling ‘central voice.’ The (self)conscious mind is the thinking ‘you,’ it is the creative mind that expresses free-will. Its supporting partner is the subconscious mind, a super computer loaded with a database of programmed behaviors. Some programs are derived from genetics, these are our instincts and they represent nature. However, the vast majority of the subconscious programs are acquired through our developmental learning experiences, they represent nurture.

The subconscious mind is not a seat of reasoning or creative consciousness, it is strictly a stimulus-response device. When an environmental signal is perceived, the subconscious mind reflexively activates a previously stored behavioral response…no thinking required. The subconscious mind is a programmable autopilot that can navigate the vehicle without the observation or awareness of the pilot—the conscious mind. When the subconscious autopilot is controlling behavior, consciousness is free to dream into the future or review the past.

The dual-mind system’s effectiveness is defined by the quality of the programs carried in the subconscious mind. Essentially, the person who taught you to drive molds your driving skills. For example, if you were taught to drive with one foot on the gas and the other on the brake, no matter how many vehicles you owned, each will inevitably express premature brake and engine failure.

Similarly, if our subconscious mind is programmed with inappropriate behavioral responses to life’s experiences, then our sub-optimum ‘driving skills’ will contribute to a life of crash and burn experiences. For example, cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death, is directly attributable to behavioral programs that mismanage the body’s response to stress.

Are you a good driver or a bad driver? The answer is difficult for in our conscious creative mind we may consider ourselves as good drivers, however self-sabotaging or limiting behavioral programs in our subconscious unobservedly undermine our efforts. We are generally consciously unaware of our fundamental perceptions or beliefs about life. The reason is that the prenatal and neonatal brain is predominately operating in delta and theta EEG frequencies through the first six years of our lives.

This low level of brain activity is referred to as the hypnogogic state. While in this hypnotic trance, a child does not have to be actively coached by its parents for they obtain their behavioral programs simply by observing their parents, siblings, peers and teachers. Did your early developmental experiences provide you with good models of behavior to use in the unfoldment of your own life?

During the first six years of life a child unconsciously acquires the behavioral repertoire needed to become a functional member of society. In addition, a child’s subconscious mind also downloads beliefs relating to self. When a parent tells a young child it is stupid, undeserving or any other negative trait, this too is downloaded as a ‘fact’ into the youngster’s subconscious mind. These acquired beliefs constitute the ‘central voice’ that controls the fate of the body’s cellular community. While the conscious mind may hold one’s self in high regard, the more powerful unconscious mind may simultaneously engage in self-destructive behavior.

The insidious part of the autopilot mechanism is that subconscious behaviors are programmed to engage without the control of, or the observation by, the conscious self. Since most of our behaviors are under the control of the subconscious mind, we rarely observe them or much less know that they are even engaged. While your conscious mind perceives you are a good driver, the unconscious mind that has its hands on the wheel most of the time, may be driving you down the road to ruin.

We have been led to believe that by using will power, we can override the negative programs of our subconscious mind. Unfortunately, to do that, you really have to emphasize the word ‘power,’ for one must keep a constant vigil on one’s own behavior. The moment you lapse in consciousness, the subconscious mind will automatically engage and play its previously recorded experience-based programs.

The subconscious mind is really a tape player. There is no observing entity in the subconscious mind reviewing the behavioral tapes. Consequently, there is no discernment as to whether a subconscious behavioral program is good or bad…they are just tapes. The subconscious is strictly a playback machine, perceived stimuli engage pre-programmed behaviors. In fact, people upon seeing their own subconscious programs play out frequently say something like, “That guy just pushed my buttons!”

In contrast to the power of the conscious mind, the subconscious mind is a million times more powerful an information processor. Also, as neuro-scientists emphasize, the conscious mind provides 5% or less of the cognitive activity during the day. Ninety-five to ninety-nine percent of our behavior is directly derived from the subconscious. Hence the use of the word ‘power’ in the concept of will power, it takes significant effort for the conscious mind to keep tabs on the subconscious behavior. Positive thinking is primarily effective if the subconscious supports the conscious intention.

The problem with trying to reprogram the subconscious is that we fail to realize it is playing behavioral ‘tapes.’ To understand why conscious awareness does not readily change subconscious programs, consider this instructive analogy: I provide you with a cassette tape and you put it into your player and push the play button. As the tape plays the program, you realize that you do not like it. So, you yell at the tape player to change the program, you ask it to play something different.

After awhile of not getting a response, you yell louder and get angrier at the tape player because of the lack of a response to your request. Then when it seems hopeless, you beseech God to help you change the program. The point is simple, no matter how much you yell at the tape player it will not change the program. To change a tape, you have to push the record button and then rerecord the program incorporating the desired changes.

There are two ways out of the problem. Firstly, we can become more conscious, and rely less on automated subconscious programs. By being fully conscious, we become the masters of our fates rather than the ‘victims’ of our programs. This path is similar to Buddhist mindfulness. Secondly, we can use a variety of new energy psychology modalities that enable a rapid and profound reprogramming of limiting subconscious beliefs.
These new energy modalities provide the ability to rewrite limiting perceptions (beliefs) and self-sabotaging behaviors using processes that are mechanistically similar to pushing the record program on the subconscious mind’s tape player. With conscious awareness, one can actively transform the character of their lives into ones filled with love, health and prosperity. The use of these new modalities provides a key to personal growth and transformation. A variety of energy psychology modalities, such as Psych-K, Holographic Re-patterning and Body-talk, are among the variety of programs that can be found on the web.

Dr. Uri Kenig analyzes in a new post published on the blog, how Obsessive Compulsive Disorders of Trichotillomania, Dermatilomania and nail biting are developed. He argues that these disorders originate in early childhood and can be a product of a problematic attachment between the child and his mother. He shows how IPEC treatment can identify these primal feelings and neutralize and clear them out of the patient’s unconscious mind and thus, helping resolving these disorders.
